Teknik Teamie Stacey Weldon recently returned from the Jr World Cup in Scotland. She placed 7th which we think is pretty awesome!

10 questions asked by Zoe and aswered by Stacey via the “internet”

Zoe: You trained in Vancouver with other Jr Team members, right? For how long?

Stacey: Yeah, I was in Vancouver for about 2and a half weeks. It was nice to be on a team again. I’ve been training on my own for quite a while now and it made me remember how much harder you work with a little motivation.

Zoe: There was also a training camp in Canmore, did you do that one too?

Stacey: Yeah it was more of a team building thing than actually trying to get stronger. We had a mini fun comp in Calgary, then headed out to Canmore for some fun on rock. It was rad to have to whole Canadian team out at the crag. (not so rad for the rest of the people at the crag tho... I don’t think they were to psyched to see 20 kids taking over the area!!)

Zoe: What else did you do in Scotland besides the comp?

Stacey: We were there about a week early. Did a bunch of touring all round Scotland.. we even saw two castles out of the Monty python and the holy grail movie... the one with the crazy Frenchman that stands at the top and throws farm animals over... it was rad!!! We learned some highland dancing and learned a whole bunch of Scottish history.

Zoe: On a scale of 1 to 10, how cool were the routes at the comp?

Stacey: The first route was really fun, but fairly mainstream. Lots of Girls (including me) topped this one. The second one was super rad tho. It was all these huge screw-on features the whole way up. There were a couple bolted on holds, but mostly just for feet. It was just like climbing outside, it was really fun. The Semi's route was really stout off the ground, but then there was a no-hands rest. After that there was a bunch of technicsal climbing. Really fun too. The finals was really hard!! haha... a big hard boulder problem...for 30m!!

Zoe: What was your favorite Scottish food?

Stacey: I’d have to say the deep fried Mars bar!!! haha... they love throwing food into a vat of boiling oil!! Everything is deep-fried over there!! The fish and chips were killer too!!

Zoe: Did you pick up any Scottish slang?

Stacey: saying "I" for yes!!! Haha... we had fun with that.... long story.

Zoe: Anything particularly awesome or fun about the whole worlds thing?

Stacey: I think that Canada deserves a huge thumbs up for team support. We were the only team that actually cheered hard for our members while climbing. The Europeans didn’t know what to think about it... we were so loud and they just looked at us like we were crazy!!

Zoe: Did you swap team jerseys with someone from another country? If ya, from where?

Stacey: Yeah... I got a rad shirt from a German Girl... and then I traded my pants with a Czech girl and I traded a Canadian flag for a Slovenian T-shirt. Everyone was going crazy for Canadian gear, it was rad!!

Zoe: Plans to do adult world cups?

Stacey: Yeah, I think I’d like to do a few world cups. I am going to the North American Championships in Mexico City in November... hopefully that’s a start.

Zoe: Ok, I'm out of questions, but if you have anything else to add you can put it here:

Stacey: ummm... I think that’s about it!!!
