Welcome to the Werd Archive.

The Werd has always been a low tech blog. In fact, we were bloggin when there weren't any. But times change and we've now got a fancy new interactive blog with all the whiz-bang gee-whiz bells and whistles.

Browse for the werd on where Teknik came from and what we got up to for the last 8 years. There's some great stuff here. I'll try and update it so it all functions again but be patient and expect some things to not work.

Otherwise click across to Tekkies and start to contribute.

Live long and tek!

Yup, we're finally doing urethane. Say hello to super strong holds, and most importantly, better working conditions for us. That polyester resin stuff really is completely nasty to work with.

We've spent over a year working with a scientist to develop a urethane from the molecule up; only the best for Teknik. We weren't happy with anything off the shelves, so we had to do our own. The result is a material that is ridiculously strong, vibrant in colour, and surprisingly light in weight. And perhaps most important to Teknik is it's great resin-like dry and grippy feel. In fact our urethane is so totally awesome it's ultrathane.

All of our smaller holds are now being done in ultrathane and we will be working quickly towards using it for our whole line. We're also excited to carve new shapes with the urethane in mind, it will allow us to make shapes that would not otherwise be possible!

Now order some of our new urethane holds to try it for yourself.

30 new holds!

We know most people think of SLAB as So Lame And Boring, but no more... let your inner ninja loose to battle the No Shadows! They are so hard that they re pretty much close to impossible to grab on anything other than slab or around an arête. They are more like smear lumps for your hands and feet than actual grips. The No Shadow Hands are big enough to grab with both of your paws although you probably will wish you never have to! The No Shadow Feet are great single hand ultra-slopers and will test your body tension when used for the feet. The No Shadows were favorites at the Canadian Western Regionals and Nationals where they made their debut.

To counter the slopey ninja death holds we've also added the Spike footholds to our line. They are nice toe grabbers for roofs and steep terrain.

Also now officially released are the Francos! We've been trickling them out at MEC since January but now the full sets are available direkt from Tek. These fantastic slopers are our new super-faves. They are very similar in style to the pumped up Arnold Muscles, only a little smaller in stature. If you've watched the movie Pumping Iron you'll get what we mean.

May 1st and the persistence of snow means the indoor season is still going strong (in Edmonton at least). But t-shirt weather is on the horizon so we’ve decided to celebrate early with a couple new teesh!

For the guys we’ve got the ‘Wrenchwrecker’ this one’s a shout-out-out to all you routesetters. Respect.

We’ve also got some freebies to keep you psyched at your workstation; two new wallpapers for your desktop. Go grab the Wrenchwrecker and the Climbing Couple (as seen in Urban Climber Mag).

Both are doodled by Seth “Whitepuma” Mason.

We've got a winner for the TvJ teesh, Josh from Connecticut! Here was his answer:

"Gamba" means "go go go!" or "do it!" or "stick it!" or
"yeah!"... kinda like

"allez!"

If I speak japanese, does it mean I'm cheating?

No Josh, it just means you win, big time!

December 2004

Zoe’s been carving and went pocket crazy, the result is 30 new pockets added to our line! There are 4 new sets of 5 Bipods which are sinker two-finger jobbies, as well as a set of 10 Ishi Tib Pockets which are shallow little screw-on doozers.

Seth’s carved up 8 new Fat Pinches which are now available exclusively at MEC (4 sets of 2 pinches). He’s also got a bunch of other new stuff in the works, so stay tuned!

Also newly available at MEC are the Tekbots and Cubix which both come in sets of 5. There are 4 different sets of each, so keep your eyes open and scrounge through the racks for ‘em. Also new to MEC are the Blade Runners, which we proclaim to be some of the -coolest-holds-ever-. They come in singles and there are five different shapes available, find them all!

December 2004

We redid our crispy logo teesh with a small solid logo on the chest, and a star on the back below the neck. It’s available in men’s and women’s cuts in a few different colours.

We also did up some other new Teknik designs for the guys. Zoe came up with a T3KN1K design (an alphanumeric version of Teknik) and Aaron put together a slick new star design called the V-Tek (on a v-neck tee).

Zoe has also used the solid logo on the hot new Underteks for guys and girls. The girl’s Underteks set includes an undershirt (tank top) with logo on the chest, and panties with a star on the right cheek. The boys get an undershirt (tank top) with logo on the front and star on back below neck (sorry guys- no undies for you, yet?).

Check out the Teklander photo shoots ONE or TWO to see our gear in action!

Teknik Teamie Stacey Weldon recently returned from the Jr World Cup in Scotland. She placed 7th which we think is pretty awesome!

31 new shapes! We've been pretty busy with other things and haven't had as much time to carve lately as we'd like to have had. None the less, we got these done cause they just couldnt wait.

Firstable, the Blade Runners. Seth has had these in his head for ages and he was finally able to rattle them out. Long and sleek, the Blade Runners are the opposite of Fat Pinches, and just as cool. These will surely become some of our most righteous shapes.

Secondly, we've got the Minibots. The third in the series of the growing "Bot" line (look for the full campaign of munitions shapes later this year). These are mostly sloping, small pinches. Shapes for the future.

Thirdable (and lastly), the Dark Crystal. Our largest hold to date, it combines the qualities of a volume, as well as the versatility of a monster sloper. The Dark Crystal comes with 5 screw-ons to attatch to the "DC" for use as thumb catches for steeper terrain, or to simply use as footholds. Think a giant "Mystical" with huge sweeping ridges and long flat vistas of sloping.

Keep checking back for more new stuff from Teknik.
