The Teknik crew took a little trip to Frank Slide to check out some bouldering, and hooked up with James and Martine the "Goons" of www.goonish.com to do a little filming (climbing, and more... lets just say costumes were involved).

The Teknik crew included:
Seth "White Puma" Mason
Alex "Alx" Faid
Pete "Keefe" Bell
Chris "Vitamin C" Venner
Zoe "Zz" Kozub

The Teknik boys ripped it up on the rocks. Zz ripped up her skin. She's decided that although grabbing rock is fun, grabbing plastic is "funner"; it doesn't hurt as much.

Puma, Alx, and the Vitamin all did the problems Cartel and Salacious, both in the V9 range. Keefe also did Cartel, and Zz was coming close. Zz snaked (not on purpose!) a first ascent of a new problem that Martine scoped out. She's called it Goon and graded it V5. Seth also did a first ascent of a new problem and has named it Vlad. He guesses it's somewhere around V10?

Alx made the play this weekend by doing his first ever boulder problems on rock two v9 (yo!). Chris was the other hero of the trip providing a massive "ghostbusters" car dubbed the Ecto 1. We fit 5 people with luggage, and 6 bouldering pads (2 of the pads were the huge 4'x6' Metolius ones) into his car fairly comfortably.

Teknik is sponsoring the Bouldering In The Canadian Rockies guide book release party. It's taking place Friday May 30th, 5-11 pm at the Vsion bouldering gym www.thevsion.com in Canmore, AB (yo Dung!).

We're keen for this book, and are really happy that we were a small part of it. We spent a couple of days last summer with Chris Fink (one of the authors) sharing infos, climbing, and taking photos. A photo of Seth made it onto the front cover, and Zoe's on the back cover being spotted by Chris and Pete! Sweetness McSweet! What a great surprise! Thanks guys.

May 4, 2003

Teknik sponsored the Canadian National Bouldering Championships May 4th in Toronto, Ontario. Teknik put $1000 cash into climbers pockets at this event, provided medals for the top 3 men and women finishers, and equipped the course setters with a huge amount of lime green holds. The holds used throughout the comp were exclusively Teknik!

Timy Fairfield was the head course setter for the comp and created mind-blowing, imaginitive problems as he's known to do. There was a foothold-only slab traverse; an upside down, feet above the head start to another problem; and a stem problem up a corner facing the audience, back to the wall.

The comp was a big success, and once again the Teknik Team put in a proud effort with a 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place finish. Seth was especially psyched to win one of the medals we made for the comp back!

Team Teknik:

Men: 1st Nels Rosaasen, 3rd Seth Mason

Women: 2nd overall, but 1st Canadian, Stacey Weldon

Team members Zoe Kozub and Nevin Rosaasen were unfortunately unable to compete this time due to injuries. Zoe's wrist was about to explode, and Nevin couldn't close his finger. Zoe went to Toronto anyways to cheer the rest of the team on, and to debut the new Teknik "dirt". Pete Bell is studying for med school finals, and Alex Faid is kinda broke.

Martine the "Goon" competed, then filmed the rest of the comp. Check in on www.goonish.com
